5 down 95 To Go

Set in the rich farmland of California’s Salinas Valley, this sprawling and often brutal novel follows the intertwined destinies of two families—the Trasks and the Hamiltons—
whose generations helplessly reenact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous
rivalry of Cain and Abel. Here Steinbeck created some of his most memorable characters and explored his most enduring themes: the mystery of identity; the inexplicability of love; and the murderous consequences of love’s absence.

"But, the Hebrew word, the word timshel - ‘Thou mayest’ - that gives a choice. It might be the most important word in the world. That says the way is open. That throws it right back on a man. For if ‘Thou mayest’ - it is also true that ‘Thou mayest not’. Don't you see?" Lee, East of Eden By John Steinbeck

Finished reading East of Eden tonight. It was a great read. It was slow at the start for me and I had to force myself to keep reading it which I am really glad I did. It wasn't until the character Cathy came a long that made me not want to put this book down. I love the deep conversations that Samuel and Lee would have, they were both some of my favorite characters. It was satisfying, it was as if things happened as they should have and you would not want it any other way. It didn't leave you wanting.  I love this book it was a awesome read and I am glad I kept reading it.
